As the title says, this thread is about IC (in character) versus OOC (out of character).
I've noticed that a few people on this board - I will be polite, as difficult as it is, and not mention any names - cannot seem to keep their IC and OOC opinions separate. For example (and keep in mind I'm just making this scenario up):
Person A's character does not like person B's character. Person A's character calls person B's character a rude name. Person B gets angry at person A and starts calling A rude names because B does not like the way A's character is treating his or her character.
You see the problem with that? That is why I think it is important for one to have the ability to discern between IC and OOC - an ability that some, sadly, lack.
So when a character does not like another character, that does not necessarily mean that the RPer does not like the other RPer. Is that clear to you all? Because frankly, I'm sick and tired of people doing screeching (metaphorically, of course) at each other in the Cbox over things their characters did. The characters are not the RPers. Is that understood?
(And remember that I was polite enough not to mention any names. If you want to reply, please do the same. I don't want this to turn into an insult-flinging, blame-tossing thread. Well, in all likelihood, it will, but at least it will be an anonymous insult-flinging, blame-tossing thread. Thank you.)
Thoughts? Comments? Questions? Suggestions? Anything?

*ahem* If I may use my copypasta skills? (Mostly taken from an earlier thread.) You know what? I'm kind of ticked off about this. The whole debacle, I mean, not just this instance of people being unable to distinguish between IC and OOC actions. First of all, just because one has been here longer does not make one right. Being right makes one right. (This applies to ALL situations.) But, hey, what would I know? I'm only ONE OF THE TOP FRICKIN' MODS. Attacks by characters on characters are not attacks by players on players. Let me repeat that. Attacks by characters on characters do not mean that the player is attacking the other player. Just wanted to clear that up. We good? We good. Aight. Moving on. Sorry if this sounds snippy in any way, shape, or form, but I have no tolerance for foolishness, and I'm under a lot of stress right now (I have to find a job and take three SAT subject tests, what larks!), which makes my tolerance for idiocy and whining less than zero. I have to deal with it enough at home, don't make me deal with it here, too. Don't make me break out B&jollnir, the Banhammer, either, because seriously, if this sh it keeps on happening, I will, and there will be consequences. And, contrary to popular belief, I do pay attention to what goes on around me. And when I swing B&jollnir...don't let loose with your cries of "You'll miss me!", for I will respond with an insta-ban and a very Bondian, "I never miss." (Name that Bond movie for fifty Redemption Points.) Seriously, when I can't leave the site for eight bloody hours to eat steak, watch a movie, and celebrate a family member's birthday, something is rotten in the state of Valcentica[/u][/i]. I can't always be your babysitter, people. In the immortal words of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, "You LOSE! Good DAY, sir!"

I agree with you Ann and Kitty. The character and the person playing the character are two very different people. They both have different intentions, thoughts...

Well, mabey if the person who's character is repeatedly attacked and never respected left and never came back then everyone would be happy.Right?

First off, thank you, Kitty.
Do you suppose there's a reason why that particular character is repeatedly attacked and/or disrespected? Hm? Like, oh, perhaps she attacks and disrespects everyone else? Yes?
If it is, in fact, IC for the character to leave, then she/he should do so. Then yes, the characters who do not like her will be happy.

No,the OOC person controlling the character leaving...then everyone would get what they want...and the person being disrespected wouldn't have to deal with certain Professors and their bullcrap.

(Whoops. Whatever happened to anonymity? Indeed. But thankfully, there is more than one professor on this site, hm?)
Well, if he/she (Whoa, see? Anonymous!) is that, um, disagreeable, I'm sure no-one will mind if he/she leaves. I certainly wouldn't. We won't have to put up with any of his/her bullcrap, either.
And if we do happen to be talking about the same person (the one whom you say is being disrespected), then she is doing more disrespecting and is far ruder than anyone else on the entire site. In fact, more than everyone else combined. I tried to respect her in the beginning and I am still trying - because showing respect is something I, unlike her, was raised to do - but it's getting extremely difficult. I'm sure almost everyone else here will agree with me on that.
...She has also got a very dirty mouth.

look, if that character is being disrespected then maybe they deserve it. it's no attack on anyone, the disrespecting is towards the CHARACTER. Almost no one on hear is rude without reason. If you're talking about who i think you are, then she doesn't deserve respect at all. I DO agree with ann, she's been ruder than anyone else and has caused more damage. if she's that upset about her treatment, perhaps she should behave better, bt say it to the characters. Really. You know, i also agree with kitty. i was gone two days once...i get back and there are two battles, insults, and stupid crap! try to control yourselves! there doesn't need to be so much drama. sometimes we really just want to get through a thread without a mary sue trying to kill us all. on more time, ahem. DEAL with characters insulting your characters. fight back if your so upset. but it is NOT a personal attack. It's just an RP. Don't have a freak out if some of the people on the playground aren't as nice as you want. throw sand in their face, and continue as usual. it's not against you it's against your character. deal with it and move on. thanks.

I was away for eight hours, and what happened? You all go bat-noodle insane crazy.
I would deeply love to beat you all a good one for not being able to play nice, but, happily for you, I play nice. I am just not looking forward to leaving for the Outer Banks for a week. At least I'll have internet, but I won't be able to be on at all times. So you will have to self-manage.
And I know that's dreadfully hard for all of you, but I think you can deal. Because if you can't, I will have lost all faith in my generation not to be whiny, immature, flame-throwing brats who throw fits and/or insults when they don't get their way.
(I'm really sorry for the tone of this, but, you know what, I've had it up to here *indicates point somewhere far above head* with this bloody immaturity on the part of more than one person. Stop being antagonistic, it only leaves me with more to deal with upon my return, and I do not like being the cleanup crew.)
