I wrote this poem a while ago for a contest on a Redwall-based roleplaying site, and as a lot of people seem to be posting their work lately I figured I might as well hop on the old bandwagon and post my own. xD
In Libris Libertas
The library's filled with legends and lore And time's kissed their pages as suitors do lace - My lad, why sit you unhappy today When all the world clamors to see your fine face?
There are, after all, whole realms to explore, Empires you've dreamed of, of which you've heard tell; Quests for the questing and swords for the brave, Deserts and wastelands where nobeast may dwell.
Along the old earthen path leading south They say there's a kingdom in need of a sword - A nation that's long suffered under the rule Of many a cruel and unyielding horde.
They speak of a princess in lands to the east - An innocent lass awaits your bold paw. But countless foes stand 'twixt you and your goal, And it may be the princess exists not at all.
Or turn your firm gaze to the west, my dear boy, Where in a day's walk lie the uncharted plains. Nobeast dares venture into the unknown - Will you be the first to brave this terrain?
And what of the dragon that sleeps in the north, Where storms rage like wars in the sky's battlefield? March into the ice and the wind and the snow, And put your blind trust in sword and in shield.
There's treasure aplenty in books, my dear lad, More good it shall do you than gold ever can. Come, sit by my side and I'll spin you a tale And we'll neither one say when th'adventure began...

ZOMG I LOVE REDWALL! soory...composure. what's you're rhyme scheme? i think it's abcb but sometimes your second b is approximate. however, THAT IS FANTASTIC. it definitely captures that theme and spirit of redwall. really, that is amaziing!. did you win?

Yay Redwall! xD I've read up through High Rhulain as well, though the last few books have been...I dunno, a little disappointing. I like the ones in the middle of the series the best - Marlfox, the Bellmaker, and so on. xD
Yeah, it's supposed to be abcb. I had to make do with slant rhyme a few times, though. xP And the results of the contest haven't been announced yet - I guess I'll have to wait and see.
