Kitty, far from being enlightened, was annoyed. She could tell there was something going on, but when she tried to see what, exactly, Karia was doing, she ran into a sort of mental block (Again! she thought, and if she'd been in voluntary control of her body, would have ground her teeth in frustration). A word slipped through here, and an image escaped there, but otherwise it was rock-solid.
----
Trevelyan was dashing through the halls at top speed, trying to get to wherever-Kitty-was before something bad happened. Bad wizard, bad! he thought to himself. Always trust your hunches!
He arrived in the common room. Nobody was in there - most were out enjoying the afternoon. But his hunch had led him to here. Which meant...
Well. Running into the Hedwig girls' dorm would look somewhat pervy at best. At least, in his current state...
Since there was no-one around, he closed his eyes, concentrated...and he was suddenly about five feet shorter, a whole lot lighter, and covered in black fur.
The cat bounded up the stairs, taking them two at a time, hoping against hope that he wasn't too late to keep the worst from happening.

Karia 'stood' motionless where she was, contemplating what had happened. Obviously, Kitty's subconscious, or whatever part of her memory was blocked didn't like anyone looking into it. Karia knew she wasn't supposed to go very deep, or she'd probaby set Kitty off. And that would be very bad for all of them.
Okay..lets avoid all memories from now on. And walk really slowly. And not touch anything. And-
Karia didn't get a chance to think anything else because something had just appeared in front of her. It was Kitty...but it wasn't the Kitty she knew. This Kitty was someone she immediately feared. She was standing far in front of Karia, at the edge of Kitty's occupied mind, stationed as a gaurd. Or perhaps just as a warning. No matter why she was there, Karia knew that if she moved any further, she would be overstepping way too many bounds.
You should know better. rang a voice in her ears. The version of Kitty that was currently staring down Karia was pissed off at her...and knew who she was.
So this was the Kitty before the memory block, the unstoppable Kitty, the one that could kill people in the line of duty and not even blink. She started to move back, to leave Kitty's mindscape, withdraw back into her own person. Karia suddenly felt herself ripped from the edges of Kitty's mind, and thrown unceremoniously back into her own body.
Karia's eyes opened, she gasped and was hurled halfway across the room and landed with a dull thud, where she lay breathing heavily on the soft carpet.
I can't ever do that again. Or I will set her off... Karia thought as an ache found its way into her head and back. She knew Kitty would still be Kitty...this time. If she ever tried this again, Karia would release a train down a one-way track hell-bent on destruction.

The black cat bounded into the room in time to see Karia get thrown across the space. What did you do? he asked, sitting on the stunned student's stomach. What did you do, did you hurt her? Did she hurt you? Talk to me, here.
Kitty groaned and sat up, clutching her head. Rather than help her, the attempt to access her memories had made her headache even worse, and she still couldn't remember anything of value. "Aaaargh. Headaaaache." She looked at Karia. "Whoa! How'd you end up down there? And whose cat is that?"
"Meow," Trevelyan said very pointedly. "Mrrow."
Kitty blinked spots from her vision and stood up, then leaned over Karia to try and help her up. "Here, let me help with that..."

Karia opened her eyes at the slight weight on her stomach, and looked down to see a black cat with some distinctive white markings. As soon as it started 'talking' she knew it was Trevelyan. Took you long enough to get here. She wanted me to help her access her memories. Don't worry, I didn't go anywhere near the stuff you don't want her to know. I made a point of not doing that. Neither of us hurt each other. Be glad it was me as opposed to someone who would dig as deep as possible. I was stalling. Nothing happened...
Well something had happened, but it wasn't something she could explain to him right now. "I uh, ran into some issues I didn't expect. Fell over. Not sure who's cat it is, but he's nice." she said, making an attempt to pet him, but just to make it seem like he was an actual cat, and not her professor in Animagus form. She took Kitty's hand and hauled herself off the floor.
"I'm sorry, Kitty. I can't do that again. It won't work if I tried." she said, genuinely sorry, but also very unwilling to explain why to her.

Good. Good. Five points to Hedwig, well done, the cat said distractedly, ducking Karia's attempt to pet him. Cover be damned, but he was not going to start acting like a common housecat.
"Aw, that's okay, least you tried, right?" Kitty said cheerfully. "Maybe next time I'll have to be dying first, or whatever..."
Karia was the only one who noticed the cat's fur bristle under her hand.

We need to talk later. And not just about this... Karia thought curtly and shut her mind again. She'd had enough extraneous mental use today.
"Heh, heh...let's, uh, hope not, okay? Dying just to get information is not generally an option you want to take," she said uncomfortably as her stomach sank a little and color rose in her cheeks. Trevelyan's fur stood on end under her hand.
"And I don't want to have to see or feel anyone else die," she mumbled, referring to the several deaths that had already ocurred among her peers. "It isn't exactly a pleasant sensation."

"Yeah, you're right," Kitty said, sitting down on the bed, completely oblivious to the irony and the tension. "It would be, wouldn't it, entropy claiming something that was ageless, a spark in the darkness going suddenly dim forever. Not a good thing."
She looked at Karia thoughtfully. "That's one part of your heritage that's got to suck. Makes me thankful I'm just a plain old human being."
The cat sneezed, not once, but several times, and his tail lashed about. The irony seemed to have flown right over her head, as usual. Seemed to be that his work here was done, for the day, at least.
Call me if you need me, Trevelyan thought at Karia, and bounded down the dormitory steps, off to find a safe place to turn back into his normal self.

"You're not kidding," Karia said tiredly. She hadn't ever done something like this before and it was making her head feel like someone had taken a sledgehammer to the inside of her skull. Rubbing her temples she sat down no the bed next to Kitty as Trevelyan cantered away.
"You learn a lot more than just schoolwork at Valcentica, that's for sure... Weirdest five months of my life, and thats saying something."
