Arden and Selena were studing in the main room that lead to all the separte Common ones. Arden wasn't doing very well. "Come on, Arden,"Selena urged. "It's not THAT hard. What does wingardium leviosa do?"
"Well, you know I can't think striaght Selena. Too much going on to study and what not. I don't want to." He pouted. Something he knew she couldn't resist, but to his surprise she looked away. "Fine...it's a lifty thingy."
"Sort of, cummon, you can do this."
"You know when I'm going to learn this?"
"When?"
"WHEN I GET A BRAIN TRANSPLANT!"

Arlene walked into the common room, thinking of ways to get her homework done. Next to none of her teachers knew yet that she was blind and she doubted any of them would take it for an excuse - though it woud probably be a nice change of pace from the usual 'my dog ate my homework' or whatever. Besides, it was pretty obvious from the way she got around without bumping into anything that she wasn't blind.
Arlene was about to plop down into the nearest comfy armchair when Arden's shout rang across the room. "WHEN I GET A BRAIN TRANSPLANT!" Intrigued, and not able to think of a way to get any work done without some sort of temporary-seeing spell which she was NOT going to do, Arlene walked over to the table where Arden and that girl Selena were studying together. "Who's getting a brain transplant?"

"Arden wants too, but it's only because he doesn't get the material," Selena answered with a smile.
"No, it's because I HATE this stuff," Arden folded his arms over his chest and made a childish pout.
"Looks like I'm not getting anywhere with the big baby, here. So do YOU want help?" Selena sighed and put her hand up to her face. She leaned on it with her hand and looked inquisitively at Arlene.

Arlene laughed at the expression on Arden's face. "And I'm guessing you're not going to like it anytime soon?"
Arlene smiled back at Selena. "Well, actually now that you mention it, I do need help. I can't actually do my homework and... I don't know... maybe you could do dictation?" she asked as she pulled up a chair and sat down wth them. Arlene had noticed that Karia made a point of ignoring Selena, but as far as she knew, Selena was really nice. She couldn't think of anyone else that would offer homework help to someone they barely knew.

"Sure. What subject. Arden, plug your ears."
"But I don't wan-"
"Plug your ears!"
"NO!"
"You are such a baby! Ugh." Selena sighed and and muttered a charm so that Arden couldn't hear. He hated it when she did that. Selena turned to Arlene. "How long have you been blind?" She asked.

"Since I was born," Arlene answered, a little taken aback by the fact that Selena knew about it. But then again, with the ways things were going at this school, who didn't know about it? Besides Arden, apparently. "And it's ok, I don't mind if Arden knows."
"As for what subject, it's kind of all of them. Well, the only thing due tomorrow is something for charms, which is a class I have not yet attended this year and only heard about the homework from someone else. I don't want to fail, but... I don't exactly want to go to class, either." Arlene pulled her charms book from her bag as well as some parchment and a quill. "I can write, I just can't read what I write. And since I kinda need to read the book..." Arlene trailed off, looking hopefully at Selena.

"Would you like me to read? Or i can instruct the idiot," Selena gerstured in the general vicinity of Arden, who was now rummaging in the books for some sort of snack he'd left there. As he returned to the table, there was a resounding crash of the books behind him. He didn't even seem to notice. In his slightly grubby hand, Arden proudly held---A twinky. "To read it for you. It might help him learn as well" She finished her sentence and looked at Arden with quizzical, amused disgust. Arden found that people only ever got that look when they spoke to him. It was quite puzzling.

"Reading would be nice - " Arlene started to say, but a crash from behind Arden interrupted her. It sounded like a tall pile of books had collapsed. Arden came back to the table, proudly holding a small rectangle. Probably a snack or something, knowing him. "Or him reading, yeah. I do know this stuff, I just need someone to read for me, so if you want to take a break, I could try teaching him something." As she spoke, the mess of books slowly resorted themselves into a tall pile once more, though it seemed to visibly stiffen whenever Arden went near it after that.

Selena gave Arden his hearing back and he made a face when she told him his task. "Fine. But only because she's pretty. What shall we start with first?" Arden batted his eyelashes at Arlene comically.
Selena rolled her eyes. "Just read, will you?"
"Fine, fine." Arden picked up Magical Diseases and Why They Kill You, leafed through it, and set it down with a look that said it all. Then he took a look at Charms and Their Effects. "Alrighty, here we go. 'The summoning charm....."

The 'pretty' comment went right over Arlene's head. She'd heard it before and she didn't much care about it, not being able to see what she looked like herself. Nor did she notice the batting eyelashes, only that something moved in Arden's eyes. Not giving it much thought, she settled down to learning about the summoning charm, only briefly deciding whether or not to take notes - someone else could always read them back to her - but deciding not to. There wasn't much point.

Arden moved on to Arithmancy and DADA. "So boggarts are basically evil tings that like to make you pee yourself," He concluded. "Can we get a snack now Selena? I'm huuuungry."
"You're always hungry. But what do you say, Arlene. Want food?"

"Sure. I'm kind of hungry too." This should definitely become a regular thing, Arlene thought to herself. I'm doing my homework, I'm studying for classes I've never been to, Arden's getting everything done, and apart from anything else, Arden's constant jokes help me concentrate. The quill and parchment lay forgotten on the table in front of Arlene, not needed as she could remember everything she'd heard so far. Magic school wasn't as bad as she had first thought. Heck, it was probably easier than regular muggle school.

Arden cunjured some snacks: a few sandwiches, chips, drinks, cake, and cookies. "Just a light snack," He smiled at his pile of food. "MMMMM" He dug into his sandwich, still managing to read from the book, though his english was a tad garbled.

"Just a light snack?" Arlene asked, an eyebrow raised. The mountainous pile in front of Arden told her that there was a LOT of food there. "What's a full meal for you then, the leaning tower of pizza?" Shrugging, she grabbed a cookie and chewed on it thoughtfully as Arden continued reading, his english a little harder to understand with a mouth full of sandwich.

"More like the Eiffel Tower, if you don't mind," Arden replied. He peered trough his food hill with a steady glare. "And since you were so rude, back to limits." He then began to revite out of Arithmancy for the Ages.
