Delia laughed quietly. "I know what you mean," she whispered back at Kitty. "Though I'm sure Monty won't mind, really. He even apologized for leaving me on my own for the winter ball. Besides, Taras is only doing me a favor."
Still, Delia couldn't prevent herself from smiling smugly when she thought of the (rather annoying) girls who practically worshipped the ground on which Taras walked. She couldn't wait to see their faces when the two of them showed up together at the winter ball. "Though I should probably be extremely careful for a couple of months after the ball," she mused. "I think there are several females who'll be less than happy with me."
She raised her voice again. "As for your dress, Kitty - if you could show me what you have, I'll be more than happy to help you choose."

Taras nodded briefly at Delia, a half-smile making its way onto his face before it vanished again a moment later. He turned back to the fire.
"So... who's going with whom?"
Stephen, like Quatre, had chosen to conveniently ignore the fact that both of them knew the Ravenclaw girls but had never met each other. He shrugged.
"Your call, really. Or the girls'. We could probably Floo them now, if you want. I've still got some of Taras's powder left over."
He figured the others in the common room wouldn't particularly care; it wasn't like they were doing any harm by Flooing friends in England.

"Hi! I'm Kitty. Saw you in class before. You must be Quatre?"
Quatre nodded. He vaguely recalled seeing Kitty in the last DADA class, before the wrenches started flying; after that, he hadn't really been focusing on people.
"Let's ask An-yi and Anise," he said to Stephen. Quatre figured it would be best to let the two girls decide on the matter.

"Asking it is, then." Stephen seized a handful of Floo Powder and tossing it into the fire, saying "Ravenclaw common room!" clearly before sticking his head into the green flames.
After a few seconds, he withdrew his head from the fireplace and took off his glasses, cleaning them with the edge of his shirt as he said, "They're going to Floo back. Adler and Vogel want to enlarge their fireplace so more than one student can use it at a time." He settled back, staring intently at the fire.
Several minutes passed before the flames flared green and expanded slightly to admit two grinning heads. One of them was bleeding slightly from a cut on her right cheek. The other was staring at Quatre and gaping slightly.
"Sorry about the wait," said the one with the cut. "Got into a bit of a scrum with the other sixth-years. They weren't exactly happy about you asking us, see."

Quatre made a faint worried noise when he saw the cut on the An-yi's cheek. "I'm sorry if we're causing you trouble--"
"No, no, not at all," the cut-free girl, Anise, said quickly. "It's nothing that can't be sorted out." Mutterings of a very unfriendly-sounding nature came from behind the two girls. This did not help. Quatre only looked more concerned.
"So what is it, then?" An-yi asked, still grinning.
Quatre hesitated. "Well, Stephen and I wanted to ask..."
"I'll take Kang, and Zhang'll go with you," she cut in, tipping a very obvious wink at Anise (whose face seemed to turn several shades pinker, though it was hard to tell in the green flames). Anise's face scowled, then made an odd bobbing motion. This resulted in a pained "ow!" from the other girl; the rest of Anise had evidently elbowed An-yi in the ribcage.
"Since Ming here has, apparently, already decided beforehand - was there anything else?"

"Oh, don't whinge," said An-yi, who was still grinning despite her elbowed ribcage. "You're happy with the arrangements, don't bother trying to hide it."
"I don't think there was, no," said Stephen, glancing at Quatre to confirm this. "Watch your backs, it sounds like the rest of Ravenclaw's going to do everything they can think of to you in the next twenty-four hours."
"And Ravenclaws can be even worse than Slytherins if they want to be," agreed Anise. "Don't worry, we'll be careful. See you tomorrow!"
A moment later, both the heads had vanished from the fire. Stephen sat back, grinning at Quatre.
"That was pretty straightforward, I think."

"Good! That's those problems solved, then!" Kitty said cheerfully. "Ball's tomorrow, ain't it? Right. Next twenty-four hours are going to be a strict prettying-up regimen - dresses and so on, and I may go as far as makeup. Consider yourself lucky, Lyall, I don't normally go for attacking my eyes with a small brush," she winked.
Then, with ludicrous speed, she grabbed Delia's wrist and towed her off to the other side of the room, presumably to talk fashion and other girl things.

"See you at the ball!" Delia called back to the others, allowing herself to be dragged off by Kitty. Once on the other side of the room, Delia plopped Squot down on a sofa. The toad just sat there, lazily watching them.
"I've already got a dress chosen out, though I'll need your help with the makeup later. I've never used the stuff before, to be honest, but if I'm going with Taras, I'd better at least attempt to look pretty." Delia grinned. "That'll come later. For now, let's choose a dress for you. "

"Really? I thought you'd have done something with makeup before." Kitty laughed. "That's both of us out, I guess. Now who do I know who can do makeup?" Karia was right out - she wasn't the makeup kind. In fact, none of Kitty's friends really were. She didn't hang with the girly-girls.
Girly-boys, on the other hand...
"Right. Before we get me set up for a dress, we need to find someone who knows something about makeup, and I think I know just the one," she said, gesturing to Delia to run after her. "Come on, follow me!"
